You need to make the border and fill separate
movieclips and manipulate just the fill mc.

have a square box (black border, green fill), that I would programatically
like to change the fill colour.
I
have done the following:
boxColor = new
Color(myBox); boxColor.setRGB(0x0000ff);
but the border and fill go
Blue.
