Hi Steve,

As far as I know the only objects that you can dynamically load in flash
are swfs and jpgs.

All the other file formats such as gif, png, avi, mpg need to be imported
into a swf by the flash authoring app - or some other app.
http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/animation_import.htm
gives a list of all supported formats.

Gif 2 swf is a converter that I have used which is simple and works
http://www.gfx2swf.com/gif2swf/

This has been a fairly frequent request from flash developers for the last
couple of versions of flash - and I'd love to have the skill to develop a
library to support dynamic import of some of the basics - i.e. gif.

There may be some server side options available - like dynamically creating
the swf from a gif using something like PHP (ming) but I haven't tried it
yet.

Cheers,

hey y'all,

i'm interested in using remoting to display a list of uploaded files in one
pane, and when clicked on, the embedded file to open in an adjacent pane
within the same flash movie.

i understand jpg's can be embedded in flash in this way, but i was
wondering what other file formats can also be "embedded"... eg. avi's?
gif's? png's? mpg's? mov's? wav's? ra? mp3?

when i say embedded, i mean can they be displayed "inline" without opening
in real player or media player for example? if identified as a mpg or avi,
can flash play them directly?

hope this makes sense. with very limited flash remoting experience i am
flying blind here!

any help or pointers much appreciated.

regards, steve
