I usually try to build things with an empty stage (except for the
boundingBox_mc). Then when I add new objects I can set their properties
through the initObject (usually through a setter in the child class):
//I'd use createClassObject if extending the core classes
attachMovie("myChildClass", "myChildClass_mc", newDepth,
{myState:1,otherProperty:10});
