Ok, I've learned a bit more since my last post, but now I only understand why the problem exists, not how to fix it.  Please help if you can:

I have a text box pulling its contents from an XML file which is linked to a CSS.  All fonts are embedded so I can have the text behind a mask.  The CSS has a bold class and a normal class.  If my Flash text box is set to be bold, then the bold text from the XML file displays, but the normal text does not.  If I reverse the font type parameters of the text box from bold to normal, then the reverse happens at runtime i.e. only the normal text displays.

I know I could create seperate text boxes to display different font types, but that would be clumsy.

Is there a way I can use my style sheets and still embed the fonts?

Kind regards, Dex
