If you are serious about a small distro you might want to build your own. Check out www.linuxfromscratch.org, you can build a custom distro with all the tools you want and nothing else to slow your machine down. Plus you will learn tons about how Linux works from a security standpoint and what makes it tick. Oh, and a note worthy item is that the author claims that he built a fully functional distro to run Apache on 8mb, so size is not an issue.
