PENOBSCOT BAY WATCH 418 Main Street Rockland Maine 04841 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 28, 2001
DMR Commissioner restricts state research videotapes as "confidential"; bans videotaping of future state trawl survey catches. CONTACT: Ron Huber (207)594-5717 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ROCKLAND. A Maine conservation group has written to Governor Angus King, sharply criticizing Maine Department of Marine Resources Commissioner George Lapointe for claiming that videotapes taken as part of the state's publicly funded research voyages are "confidential". See group's letter at http://www.penbay.org/tapeletter.html The group is calling on the Governor to countermand the commissioner's decision and order the release of videotapes made during the state's controversial inshore trawl survey carried out last fall. They also asked him to reverse Commissioner Lapointe's September 10th decision to ban videotaping of catches made during the state's Fall 2001 trawl survey, which begins this week.
