The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) wants to make sure curbing global
warming does not contaminate drinking water. In its first regulations on the
burial
of carbon dioxide underground, the EPA on Tuesday unveiled measures to protect
drinking water from carbon dioxide. A final rule is expected in late 2010 or
2011,
the EPA said.

(Carbon dioxide dissolved in water is, of course, what makes the bubbles in
soda
pop, Perrier, champagne, Pelegrino, generic brands of mountain spring fizzy
water, and beer.)
