Bingo. As someone who has argued for (and against) the ideals of both
political 'sides' it has become very clear to me that the real divide is
between the majority in the middle and the extreme on both (all) side(s).

You periodically see clear examples when you meet someone who says something
like: "I used to be far-left and I know that Liberals want to take away all our
freedoms, so now I horde weapons for the coming Revolution." No, you're just a
freak regardless which side you're on. It is easy to find conspiracy-loving
folks full of wildly generalized pre-judgings of other groups (or "Other
Groups!!") in either camp. It's the same sort of intrinsic gullibility that
buys into whatever mythology, bigotry, fear or hype that supports whatever they
already wanted to believe in. Some people just have a really really hard time
grasping that they live in a complex universe.

I belong to a 9/12 group - partly out of morbid curiosity and partly to
understand the gripes. You see a lot of stuff like this (

.sigh.

Some of the rantings from Further Left Blogistan is not a whole lot saner.
