In addition, the article says:

So she went to meet the guy and ended up dead.  Sad, but let's think for a
moment - if it's somebody you're planning to meet, are you going to push
that panic button?  No, you're going to push it if it's somebody creepy that
you *don't* want to meet anyhow.

So what problem is the panic button actually solving?
