Y'know, we did have multiple functional networks pre-DNS. Now...clearly the alternate schemes we had in place didn't scale well, but they *did* work. Should it become necessary, they, or something similar to them, can be made to work again -- and likely much more effectively, given that we've learned a thing or two in the interim.
