All,
Furthur version 1.4.0 is
complete, and it will be up on www.furthurnet.com around 3AM EST. If
you got a hold of it earlier, please download and install it again, as it was
not completed until about 11:30 PM EST. (only 4 people plus developers I
think)
This version contains a major
functionality change, which will take our sharing space to the next level.
This functionality, which we've named Antelope Technology,
should drastically increase the speed of many downloads.
Antelope Technology
------------------------------
When a number of hosts on FurthurNet are sharing
the same show, a user downloading that show will receive different parts of
the show from many hosts simultaneously. Think of it as music stampeding
from many computers to yours all at once.
Note: A significant change like this obviously has
the ability to create new bugs. I've tested everything extensively, and I
think it's solid, but keep an eye out for new bugs and let me know what you
find.
New Functionality in Version 1.4.0:
1) Antelope
2) Fully redesigned download window, which gives
you detailed information on the status of your download, which files are being
received, percentages and status updates for each file. To view the
download window for an active download, double click the download in the
partials tab.
3) Fixed threading issues with download windows,
you should not get hung windows again.
4) When you attempt to connect to a
show from the partials tab, it will retrieve an updated list of
hosts sharing that show prior to connecting. (critical for Antelope
to work)
Notes:
You'll still be able to download
from hosts running previous versions, but Antelope will only get extra
connections from clients running 1.4.0 or higher.
Definitely try double clicking
on an active download in the partials window, I think you'll really like the
extra information.
The steps in a download should
be as follows:
1) Original search and choose to
download.
2) Download will run in the partials
window.
3) To resume a stopped download, use auto retries
or manual retries. Searching for a show that's already in you're partials
window will not return results. Trust me, retrying from the partials panel
is much better, the need to search again was just a workaround in previous
versions because of bugs.
