On behalf of the FurthurNet team, I'd like to thank you for your patience and assistance in developing FurthurNet Version 1.5.5. While we've hoped to release it many times, we repeatedly postponed in order to get everything just exactly perfect. Many great features and enhancements have been completed over the past two months, and I'm sure you'll be pleased with the hard work of everyone involved. We're all excited by the great success and expansion of this project, and we'll continue working to make things better and better. FurthurNet is not just software, it is a community of fans worldwide that are working together to spread the music. Your support and assistance has been invaluable throughout the beta testing process. Your many suggestions, questions, bug reports, and complaints have driven our development efforts. We also thank you for helping each other out both in the Furthur chat and in the Furthur forums. We don't always have time to answer questions directly, so we hope that experienced users will continue to help new users get acquainted with the system. Our forums page is available at forums.furthurnet.com. Version 1.5.5 is now available! This
version is fully backwards compatible with 1.5.4.
1. Added player launching so your audio player can
be automatically launched through Furthur (right click on the object in the
shared panel).
2. Added the ability to share and download video. 3. Added the ability to download music tools and music software through Furthur. 4. Reduced much network bandwidth overhead. 5. Enhanced address serving capabilities for better connectivity. 6. Resolved many memory issues to decrease RAM usage, decrease CPU usage, and increase stability. 7. Fixed bandwidth throttling, you can now accurately limit the bandwidth Furthur uses. 8. Fixed MD5 failure problems 9. Added "Date Posted" field to search for newly posted shows. Note that this will only work for shows posted with version 1.5.5 or above. 10. Added "News" panel which displays recent Furthur news. 11. Added chat nickname registration, to eliminate nickname collisions between users. 12. Enhanced date searches to allow searching for shows before a date, after a date, and between two dates. 13. Added ability to "view details" for shows in the share panel. 14. Added "Most popular searches" list to the advanced panel. 15. Fixed list sorting bugs. Regarding video posting: Unfortunately,
bands that allow live audio trading do not always allow live video
trading. Bands benefit by letting fans enjoy material that is otherwise
inaccessable. Over time, we hope that Furthur may help bands to realize
this, and that it may help to facilitate changes in bands' policies.
Please share only content that you know to be legally tradable. We would much prefer to focus our development efforts on new features and enhancements, and not on additional security constraints and copyright checks. The community has done a great job of "keeping it legal" so far, and we hope this will continue to be the case. Important: To download software or video,
select it from the "Object Type" drop-down box at the top of the
window.
Important: Furthur will filter shares, searches, and partials depending on the type of object you select in this drop-down. If you think you've lost your shares or partials, make sure that "Live Audio" is still selected. We have tested our improvements extensively,
but it is possible that old bugs still exist or that new bugs have been
created. Please continue to let us know if you encounter problems.
