Both.
For people who need a content management system, use PaperThin or build your
own. For people who need all the bells and whistles of Spectra, remember
that they will be unsupported quite soon, and they are the worst part of
Spectra.
For people who want the ability to be able to port content across DBMSs
(like SQL Server to Oracle) know that there are great tools for avoiding the
"pain in the caboose" that Steve says arise when dealing with constraints
and auto integers. Also, the pain of dealing with UUIDs or some kind of
maxID select thingy will, more often than not, be greater than the pain of
any data porting you may encounter in the future. Carefully investigate your
business needs before deciding on a method for creating pkeys.
