i
don't think you've missed anything. Topica is like that. I don't think it was
ever possible to search the archive, at least all I've ever heard was that it
was not. I emailed them awhile ago and asked what was up, and they responded
that it was only possible to search for the names of other lists. It makes sense
in a way. I don't know how many lists they host, but it would be a lot more
resource intensive for them to make them all searchable, no?
I've
been frustrated enough with that and needing to peck like a pidgoen through
the message links to build a small app for myself that archives the
messages. One day, it might be up on a server somewhere, but for now, i have it
installed on my dev machine and it's worked flawlessly for the past 2 weeks. So,
here ya go.
i'm
using MS SQL to store the messages, as those tables are 10's of mb in size, and
i had a server installation in mind. but if you don't have that, try it out with
Access. the front end has got a simple overview of the last 200 messages for the
fusebox and fb community lists that i can just scan down and a few search input
boxes up top. it could use dandying up, but until i get a lull in my workload,
good enough for me. the whole archive is scannable, searchable, and stored in a
db instead of in my mail client.
