You can either use <cferror> or wrap a <cftry> around 
the core file to catch all errors and display a 
friendly error page. That's what most of us do, I think.
In fact, a common practice is to have the error page
send us an email with the error message so we know 
what went wrong.

The next version of the core file will likely have 
more graceful error handling. We're working on forming
a standards committee to take responsiblity for updates
of the core file. Read about it at http://www.fusebox.org.
