It's really not that big of a deal is it? There are only like 10 more nominees than there are seats, so even if you took a guess, the results aren't going to be that much off.

I don't think the reasoning behind having a council is to bring you down in anyway. It's to broaden the voice which evolves the methodology and to spread the responsibility of maintenance to a wider set of people. And given that this methodology is open, if you disagree with what the council decides, feel free to branch off and do it the way you would have.
