I'm also pretty sure that if you put a CFAPPLICAITON tag with the same 
NAME attribute in the child circuit, and set session management off, it 
should 'override' the one in the directory above it.  Though I'm having 
a hard time thinking of a case where this would be necessary?  First 
time for everything!
