Thanks Bert, really appreciate that, the site has to be out and running by
tomorrow.
Regarding FB3 - would love to set it up in that , but the learning curve and
possible unpredictable results mean I will have to go with my present set-up
to be assured I get it out on time and keep promise to client.
We have another project coming up and I will give it a go on that one,
again thanks,

Hello All,
I thought I would make another stab at learning fusebox. My first two attempts
confused me. But here I am again. I downloaded Lee's Portal example to start
learning from it. But I can't view any pages. I have set up the portal once before
without any problems but that was on coldfusion 5.0 I have just installed ColdfusionMX
on my local machine. Is there a modification that I am to make to the core files?
Or a setting on the coldfusion server to get things to run?
Thanks in Advance.

Hi Mike,
Take a look at your index.cfm. You only need to have the CF50 core file included.
You can remove everything else.
The only line of code in your index.cfm will be:
<cfinclude template="fbx_fusebox30_CF50.cfm">

Mike,

If you're running on MX and are just getting a blank screen, try
changing this line in the index.cfm:
<cfelseif variables.fuseboxVersion lt 600>
to this:
<cfelseif variables.fuseboxVersion lt 700>
The problem is that the index.cfm is simply not including any of the
core files because the version of CF you're using (600+ for MX) isn't
catered for -- it's checking for version _less than_ 600, not LTE...

Tim.

Mike -
Welcome to Fusebox. You've probably encountered the infamous "index.cfm CF version
selection
glitch". The index.cfm that is distributed with the fusebox.org files had (it was
recently fixed) faulty
logic in it to select the appropriate core file based on the version of CF you're
running. Essentially,
the logic only accounted for version up to 5. You can one of two things:
- change the logic (or download the core files from fusebox.org again to see the
correct logic), or
- change index.cfm to do a simple include of the CF5 core file, instead of having the
conditional
logic there.

Subject: Session Management FB3
Hello,
I was recently poking around inside the source of 3rd wheel bikes (the
demo app showing fb in action). Istumbled across something that I think is
disturbing. It seems as though the shopping cart is dependent upon cookies
being enabled. I have tested this and indeed when cookies are disabled the
cart no longer functions. I know that there are other ways to do session
management other than cookie/client based.
My primary concern is in that there appears to be a security risk when
dealing with information residing on the client's machine. I was wondering
if anyone could make some arguments as to whether this practice is
considered
secure versus other methods of session management. Also I would like to hear
comments on all known alternatives to this issue.
I wonder if the idea of Server side session management works with FB3 and if
so, why would you not use it?
Thank For Any Comments,
Chris Brinker

Making it so cookies have to be enabled is just a different way than putting
cfid and cftoken into the url. I do this here at Dixon because if I did not
do that I would have to have a huge amount of code that would try and
identify what search engines were coming to our site and then take off cfid
and cftoken to those search engines. To make my life easier I just make
cookies required. They are only session cookies and disappear as the user
closes the browser. So the sample application may not be putting anything on
the client they could just be relying on having the client have cookies so
there isn't an issue with search engines indexing a cfid and cftoken.

Chris -
You certainly can do server-side session management with FB3. Third Wheel Bikes is
just the sample app
for the book Nat and I wrote; it is not intended to be an exhaustive "this is how FB3
must be" application.
Within an application, we could only represent one way of doing a particular task
(like managing a shopping
cart); you should not infer that we recommend you NOT use another method. In fact,
we're not
recommending you use any particular method for your shopping cart. We're just showing
you how to
organize your code "a la Fusebox".
Fusebox is about architecture and organization; what you do within your fuses is
entirely up to you.

Hi Chris;
I have used that demo as well to wrap my wee knoggin around some
concepts, and I was offer this; It is a demonstration to highlight
concepts from the book. It isn't intended to provide fully scalable
solutions to all your web development needs. That said, security is a
major concern for most of us, and a number of the listees have provided
many resources to help fill in that portion of application development.
Lastly, you should be able to implement any combination of server-side
mechanisms with Fusebox 3.

Subject: RE: Session Management FB3
There's nothing in FB3 that restricts what form of session management is
used, or where any variables are stored - that's all down to the way you
code.
AFAIK, the only way to maintain a session between the client and the server
is by either passing the cfif and token in the URL or storing them in a
cookie on the client.
This cookie shouldn't be confused with any cookie variables that may be set
in the code, either directly via cfcookie or js, or indierctly as client
variables, where client storage is set to "cookie".
The first cookie is fairly benign, and arguably its more secure to place
this in a cookie than pass around in the url or hidden form fields.
The second type you have to be more careful about, and I'm not sure I can
think of anything that I wouldn't rather store in a client var dB in the
server, but again this is the coders choice. I'm not familiar with 3rd wheel
bikes, but I'd guess if its wacking everything into a cookie then its
because its just a demo app knocked up by a bunch of cowboys
;)
What is this "Server side session management" you mention? Are you sure it
doesn't rely on url.cdid/token or cookie.cfid/token?
Or did I miss the point?
Bert
P.s. there is a third way but I can't remember the finer points, and anyway
its not really suitable for a pulic website.

After completing my first FB3 e-commerce site I've been getting some

This is interesting, too... if you right click on the page and choose
properties, you're informed that this connection is:
SSL 3.0, RC4 with 128 bit encryption (High); RSA with 1024 bit exchange
So there's no doubt it's encrypted. You can also click on the certificates
button on that properties panel and see all the cert info. I hope that
helps you continue to trouble shoot it, I'm sorry I don't have a better
answer.

Thawte has a link you can add inside a page to show the site is verified as a secure
site. That will not force the browser lock button. It makes me think though... tell
your client to check to see what the user browser type and version are. This could be
easier if you put an order number on the page the user could use as a reference.
Record the order number and the browser numbers in a log. Then when your calls come in
you will have more information to do the research with.

I don't know why that should have an effect, but it does. At least on IE.
I had that problem, and changing to meta/javascript redirection fixed it.

There is another knowledge base article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q208966that
tells you to press CTRL+F5 to refresh the secure Web site. When you do this
the lock icon shows up briefly and then disappears again. How many pages
are you loading once you go to https? I also agree that having the verisign
logo at the bottom of all https pages would reassure customers who don't the
see the lock if the change from a cflocation doesn't work.

Maybe it has something to do with the 302 header that gets sent with
CFLocation. IE may be screwing up when it gets redirected via the HTTPS
header and "forgets" to keep the lock image in place...
Just a guess,
