Canada Dollar Surges to 5-Month Highs Vs U.S. Dollar

TORONTO (Reuters) - The Canadian dollar jumped to 5-month highs against the
U.S. currency Tuesday as the greenback fell against major currencies on
heightened fears about a U.S.-led war against Iraq. At 11:30 a.m. (1630
GMT), the Canadian dollar was at C$1.5486 to the U.S. dollar, or 64.57 U.S.
cents, up from C$1.5612, or 64.05 U.S. cents, at Monday's North American
close.


Canada Ratifies Kyoto Protocol on Global Warming

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Canada formally ratified the Kyoto accord on
global warming Tuesday, brushing off fierce opposition from some provinces
and major energy producers. 'It is a great day for Canada and for the
world,' Environment Minister David Anderson told a news conference after
handing over the papers to the U.N. legal department.
