Artistic beauty is, as the impressionists argued, not a
function of the "beauty" of the topic to which the
art work refers.

Here is a Reuters photo (NYT 22Decd02 p.WK.4) worthy of Ryoanji and the
austere Japanese esthetic that found its models
in the people's pottery of Korea:

It would also make a great full-page advertisement in a
glossy high-end fashion magazine, or the cover for the great American
novel of the 21st century (sorry I couldn't find a bigger
copy)....
