Isn't there an option of just going into hiding?
What is a virtue among us is a vice among our enemies.
I was reading today how the people in the part of Iraq where Saddam Hussein might be have the principle of "hospitality" that, if they welcome you as a guest in their home, they will protect you even from The World's Most Powerful Power. Now, in the present instance, the substitution value for the variable "you", of interest, is: "Saddam Hussein".
And, of course, that is very bad of them.
But *we* praise people who hid jews from the Nazis and slaves from the U.S. government before our Civil War.
We must praise Allah (God? G-d? Other?) that we was born on the right side! And we must not read too much anthropoligie!
It is, of course, unthinkable, that any of us could have been born Mohammad Atta, isn't it? He should have said: "I must not give my life for my beliefs, but rather I must correct my beliefs and believe what the people I think are evil and my enemies believe!", just like Nathan Hale could never have said that.
In the computer world, "Oops" is the name of The True Faith du jour (2001+/-).

(Reuters) - Richard Perle, a leading Pentagon adviser and architect of the U.S. war to topple Saddam Hussein, said the United States had made mistakes in Iraq and that power should be handed over to the Iraqis as fast as possible. In an interview with the Le Figaro daily newspaper to be published Thursday, Perle defended the U.S.-led war in Iraq and restated his belief that France had been wrong to lead international opposition to the conflict
