Let me speculate one reason why people
believe adversity is good for you (even if not
for them).

Imagine a young person who has been adversified (like
his dad has deversified his stock portfolio in the
same time period...) to the point that he gets
into Harvard by having been Captain of his school's
football team, class president, volunteer at the
local soup kitchen every Saturday and Sunday, etc....

Now, suddenly, John Bears Fortipton's agent
hands this young person a check for US$1,000,000/.38
(the multiplier for inflation since The Millionaire was
on TV), all taxes paid.

What will the young person do with his good fortune?

Therefore I say unto you, as NASA may recently have
learned:

Ad aspera per astra (To difficulties via the stars).
