A German programmer wrote a book called "5 hours are enough" where he
calculates that the 5 hour work week (5, not 35) would be sufficient
if the money system would be abolished and society would drop the
consumerism/growth mania, producing only the _necessary_ goods & services
in efficient ways (e.g. making high-quality long-lasting products,
instead of short-lasting use-and-dump junk just to maximize profits).
Ironically, the author works at a bank (which he writes will become
obsolete under his system). Since the bank found out about the book
(which he published on his website, http://www.5-stunden-woche.de ),
his employer tries to mob him out of the company (direct firing is
impossible due to labor laws).
