Hi Folks,

My name's Grant. I'm brand new to this list and fvwm in general.
I'm pretty new to the open-source community too, in fact. I work
on the Linux UI for VMware Workstation and worked on implementing
multi-monitor fullscreen support. This lets you expose one or more
monitor to your guest virtual machine, a feature people have been
excited about.

Here's the thing: our implementation requires all guest displays
to appear together in a single window that stretches over multiple
monitors. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done with most
window managers, including fvwm. We wound up devising all kinds of
hacks to put our window where we want it, with varying success for
each window manager. So my colleague has proposed a hint to be
added to the wm-spec:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/wm-spec-list/2007-March/msg00002.html

and has submitted a patch for Metacity, demonstrating that the
hint is sane:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3D414476

We're hoping the hint is accepted in some form soon so that we
can start implementing it on a variety of window managers,
including fvwm, and release a future version of Workstation
that uses this hint instead of gross hacks. I'm starting
implementations on a variety of popular window managers and expect
only minor changes to things if the final accepted hint differs
from David's current proposal.

So, I've just gotten the main branch from CVS, built it, all that.
I'm pretty much ready to start coding. Any tips? Any branch I
should be making these changes on besides main? (I believe fvwm's
latest "stable" branch doesn't support the single-monitor
fullscreen hint, correct?) We'd like this
support to come to the "masses" as quickly as possible.=20

There is Xinerama support in the 2.4 branch but it looks to
me like the ewmh support is 2.5 only.

I believe the bulk of Fvwm users are using the 2.5 branch
so 2.5 only should be fine.

Thanks. But there doesn't seem to be any 2.5 branch, only 2.4. Am I missing something?
