The new PNG loading code requires libpng 1.0.3b or later due to
it using png_set_gray_1_2_4_to_8(). I may be the only person
on the planet using an older libpng, but if I'm not I think a
configure check might be useful.
png.h defines PNG_LIBPNG_VER if that helps. It should be 10005
or greater (10004 could be version 1.0.3a)
