Hi folks, may I put your attention to Gentoo bug #862115 or libx11 commit afcdb6fb0045.
It seams that libX11 is not thread safe and forcing it does break fvwm and other window managers like xfce (however, they add a patch to not trigger that bug in libX11 anymore). It seems that they want to blame fvwm and xfce and not libx11.
