I *think* this was a known issue with the vim developers. I suggest asking
on their mailing-list to see. Although I know of people using gvim just
fine with transparency. Odd. If you launch gvim from an xterm, is anything
printed to it, such as errors?

This could be the default font size for all your gtk apps.

This is available in FvwmButtons by using the "Panel" option to
FvwmButtons. There's a really good explanation of this in the man page for
FvwmButtons, under the section "CREATING PANELS".
