Is there a negative influence on it for the firewall performance? I doubt if the
firewall only accepts connections only from 50 internal sources and make the other
internal sources' connections wait in the queue to be processed? It doesnt seem very
logical but we sometimes experience packet losses from internal to external sources
and I doubt this may be the reason.

It depends on what you designate as your internal/external interfaces. If the
firewall counts 311 hosts traversing from internal interfaces it will consider
that number.
