I ran into the same problem with Solaris 8 with our management station. I called Checkpoint and they were unable to resolve the issue. At the time we were planning to move to a SPLAT box and that went smoothly and the issue became moot to us. Personally, I think the UnixInstallScript on the R55 CD is broken.

I run the upgrade_export to create a .tgz file . Move the .tgz file over to the new box. Run the UnixInstallScript from the R55 installation CD and specify Advanced upgrade.
The upgrade fails with an error message "An error has occurred during the installation of SVN foundation"
