Hi Peter,

Mine are on cable now as well, however we haven't had any issues with
SecureClient on DSL. If you're on AI on both the gateway and on SC, the MTU
should be negotiated and set automatically. It starts at 1350 and I've seen
it negotiate as low as 1000 on my home system. At home I have SC behind an
older 2Wire NAT router on a cable system.

During Edge testing, we did have an Edge on the early 4.5 beta firmware on a
DSL line. It worked fine except when trying to save a file from a web server
behind the R55 gateway to a workstation behind the Edge using Internet
Explorer's "save target as" option. It just hung and never got to the
Save/Open selection. I reduced the MTU on the Edge from 1500 to 1350 and it
worked perfectly after that.

This was the first file transfer test so I don't know if the same effect
would have been seen when copying from a file server. Probably, I guess, and
all of the file server copies were fine after the MTU decrease.

You might want to repost your question at www.sofaware.com in their
Discussion Groups as that group seems to be more small business-based, so
you may get additional responses that could help you.

Subject: [FW-1] Edge X on DSL?
Date: Fri, 19 Nov 2004 08:27:04 -0800

Hi,

We are looking into rolling out Edge x-series boxes to
our international offices. Many of the sites where we
work do not have the same kind of infrastructure as in
the US. I.E. one office has a 128K up link to
satellite, and that all that is available.

Some of these sites currently use DSL. While we have
deployed Edge boxes on cable modems, etc. We have
none running on DSL. Given the problems DSL can cause
for Secure Client I'm a little bit concerned. I
really don't want to spend 16 hours flying somewhere
to install something that's not going to work.

Does any body have any experience connecting Edge
boxes with DSL. Success stories and horror stories
both welcomed. Information on how often it
does/doesn't work, also. All input appreciated.

THX,
Pete Goodridge.
