I'm running Checkpoint NG with AI on a Secure Platform Dell machine, and we had a TON of trouble with the floodgate module. During peak traffic times, the machine would lock up, and the only way the Checkpoint Engineers resolved the problem, was to remove the Floodgate module from the enforcement machine.
I have heard that it is a good module, but be aware there are some issues. Checkpoint is still working on my problem, and we are not using floodgate. -Andrew Crawford Assistant Director of IT Services Christopher Newport University andrew.crawford(at)cnu.edu -----Original Message----- From: Mailing list for discussion of Firewall-1 [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Brad Pinkston Sent: Monday, January 10, 2005 9:24 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FW-1] Floodgate Information needed Sorry for the delayed response. I am a big believer in floodgate. It is nice to have the same set of objects for firewall, VPN and QoS rules. Floodgate seems to react to traffic spikes a lot better than our Packetshaper did. The benefits I saw in Packetshaper though were, QoS by MAC address which FG won't do, and how easily noticeable new traffic was discovered. We are in an academic environment and don't have the luxury of blocking traffic that isn't necessary, so I have to prioritize traffic by type and source also. Checkpoint seems to handle this better. If you have any questions in your implementation, feel free to email me directly.
