Hello:

I just spoke to Check Point Customer Advocacy regarding this problem where 
Smart Defense will not update and gives an error about a subscription license 
being expired even though you have a valid current license.  They informed that 
Check Point is handling this problem on a case by case basis.  If you are 
experiencing this problem you can try contacting Customer Advocacy and they 
will open up a trouble ticket for you.
