I had the same problem and switched to SCP

The link below has a ssh server that works OK on 2k Pro, have not tried it
on other platforms

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=103886&package_id=1116
88

Ensure you follow the notes (found within the program group) in setting up a
local or domain group and also a local or domain user account to use the ssh
server before starting it
Note the service is set to automatic so you may want to change it to manual
and have a batch job to start and stop it and also within it have a line to
copy it to another share and delete it from its original location

Also if you create a new account ensure you log on to the machine with the
ssh server before doing a backup as the backups are stored at the root of
the profile

Hope the above is of some help

Rich

Unfortunatley, we are a window's shop and don't have a linux box on the
network.

More than anything, I'd like to know why I can't do it from the
Administration website. It has the option to do a manual backup, or to
schedule the backups. If I could just get the tftp transfer to work
right, I wouldn't have to do anything that isn't included with
SecurePlatform.

I've also tried to console in using putty and do the transfer, but the
splat box doesn't seem to understand ftp or tftp from the command line.

If anyone would like a screen shot of the web interface's backup page, I
can send you a small 35k zip file. (tried sending with this post, but
was rejected by the mailing list).

Yeah that would do it!

Why go through all the trouble. you want to do this:

1) create an account on the linux server,
2) generate an RSA or DSA key on the linux server with the new account,
3) place the .pub key in the SPLAT box,
4) schedule the SPLAT box to backup the configuration at, for example,
11:45pm into a local directory on the SPLAT box,
5) create a cron job on the linux to grab this file from SPLAT at 12am
via scp

It is much easier and secure to do it this way because you can even do
this across the Internet with SCP.

Place the file "on itself", then from the console or a SSH telnet
session (use Putty.exe), ftp it to your ftp server. With the 3cserver
from 3com, when I ftp from the SPLAT console, I put the ftp client in
passive mode first.

the secureplatform admin web interface only has options for placing the
file on itself, tftp or SCP servers.

I know the versions of those servers I have will also do FTP. Just use
that (FTP) and be done with it.

I'm having a problem with backups on our splat box. The backup log on
splat says "Failed to transfer the package to the remote server.", but I
do see a file on my tftp server. Everytime I do a backup, it transfers a
.tgz file that's exactly 32,768 kb. When I try to decompress it, winzip
spits out the error message: "invalid compressed data - unable to
inflate". Gzip gives a similar error. I've used both solar wind's tftp
server, and 3com's tftp server. Any ideas?
