We're in the process of transitioning from an old client/old database to a new client/new database. The old client were all based back on Macintosh OS 9, whereas the new client is native to Macintosh OS X. This makes it necessary to run the old client in Classic Mode under OS 9, since all new equipment being distributed by Apple no longer runs Mac OS 9 natively.

Thanks,
Layne

So - and I know it doesn't really address your question - would it be
possible for the users to connect to both DBs directly from OS X? Or
must they use a particular OS 9-only proprietary client specific to the
application?

Subject: Re: [FW-1] SecureClient for Mac - problems

They are using CheckPoint SecureClient NG with Application
Intelligence, R56, Build 701 client on Mac OS X. They then
fire off the legacy client (OS 9) which brings up Mac OS 9 in
Classic Mode.

They used to then just connect to the Database, but now it
appears that this traffic isn't going through SecureClient in
OS X (I've been monitoring the logs).

I did, however, check to see if they ran the Apple Security Update
2005-007 (release August 17th) but they didn't. They are
still back on the Apple Security Release 2005-004 (April 20).
Since they need to test any system updates up and down with
the vendor before they roll any update out to the masses.

I appreciate your help!

Layne

Just to clarify - are they using an older version of the sybase
client, or an older version of secureclient, in Classic?

If it's the former, would it be possible for them to just have two
copies of the OS X client running?

Last OS X security update was August 17th, and it contained
a lot of
different fixes - none of them looks like an obvious
culprit, but it
might be the problem.

Subject: [FW-1] SecureClient for Mac - problems

Our users use CheckPoint SecureClient (NG AI R56, Build 701) using
Mac OS X (10.3.9) Panther to connect to a Sybase Database using a
proprietary client. They, up until Saturday, were also able to
launch a different (older
version) of the client running in Macintosh OS 9 in
Classic Mode and
connect to a separate Sybase Database. Like I said, they
used to.
We've made no changes to the VPN-1 system, so we're kind
of at a loss
as to why.

The only thing we've found is that under Classic Mode, they are
unable to resolve the host name from DNS, but running OS
9 in Classic Mode uses the same network connection and
settings as OS
X.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
