Hi Shane, some times, some onboard dual Intel 1000 are limited to about 800Mb by the internal bus behind it. I think it's true for example the HP DL380 (I have it with 14 network interfaces like you with quad Intel 1000 and two onboard 1000). I put the Sync (because cluster) on an onboard one, and the other onboard for the Internet Link (which is very less than bandwitch link, even 800Mb).
Also, HP DL380 have 133Mhz PCI-X and 100Mhz PCI-X (there is label behind the server). I put the network that will have more heavy load on the quad card which is on the 133Mhz PCI-X, and less heavy load on the card which is on 100Mhz PCI-X slot. I do not known about Dell 2800, but think about this factors. Hope it will help you, -- Fabrice BARUTEL [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Thu, 15 Dec 2005 11:10:47 -0500 From: Shane Presley <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: SecurePlatform: Interface Layout Hello, We have a Dell 2800 with 4 Intel 10/100/1000 quad cards installed. That means we have 16 gigabit interfaces from the Intel cards, and 2 onboard gigabit interfaces. This is done mostly for segration of traffic and convenience purposes. No single interface is really pushing that much traffic. Maybe 10mb at most. However, is there any logic I should use to layout my interfaces? For example, should I put my most heavily used interfaces on the onboard NICs? Any other suggestions? (This is a CheckPoint NGX firewall running SecurePlatform) Thanks Shane ================================================= To set vacation, Out-Of-Office, or away messages, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] in the BODY of the email add: set fw-1-mailinglist nomail ================================================= To unsubscribe from this mailing list, please see the instructions at http://www.checkpoint.com/services/mailing.html ================================================= If you have any questions on how to change your subscription options, email [EMAIL PROTECTED] ================================================= ================================================= To set vacation, Out-Of-Office, or away messages, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] in the BODY of the email add: set fw-1-mailinglist nomail ================================================= To unsubscribe from this mailing list, please see the instructions at http://www.checkpoint.com/services/mailing.html ================================================= If you have any questions on how to change your subscription options, email [EMAIL PROTECTED] =================================================
