If you've downloaded an HFA, you'll need to unpack the *HFA*.tgz
file, and then separately import the cpshared* and fw1* packages
contained within. You can't just import the HFA as one chunk, it
needs to be separate.
I understand what cisco4ng means about issues with SmartUpdate. I
used to have a lot of problems with it (circa FP3 days). I found R55
to be pretty good though, and it made doing a bunch of upgrades a bit
easier. At heart, I'm a command-line guy though.
I did like using it to get product info from the modules though, it
gave me a nice central view of all the modules installed software
versions, including IPSO versions. I quite like the NGX feature to
grab a cpinfo from a module, and save it locally. Requires cpinfo
installed as a package on the modules though (i.e. they must be NGX).
If they could add the ability to pull a cpinfo from a CMA into
SmartUpdate too, I would be pretty happy. Just saves a bit of mucking
around transferring files, etc.

Hi,
I have not used SmartUpdate for a while because of so many
problem that comes with
it. But I suspect the package that you downlaed is not the one
that is used for
SmartUpdate. To be sure, download the package again and run:
tar -xzpf xxxxxxxx.tgz
if you see a SU directory, then the package can be used in
SmartUpdate. Otherwise,
it can not be used with SmartUpdate.
Would it be much easier if you just download the package
mannually and run it there?
I normally don't trust smartupdate in the first place.

I´m running SecurePlatform NG AI R55 HFA-08
Whenever I try to add a package to my SmartUpdate software
repository i get the message "Error: the input file is not a valid
package". I wonder what the problem might depend on or why this
error occurs. It´s the same if I try to add an HFA package from the
downloadcenter or just a simple patch from the downloadcenter
I´ve also tried to download the HFA´s from Checkpoint website and
add it manually to the repository from file, but it´s the same
error anyhow.
Please advice.
