Actually yes I too have had to support multiple firewalls for multiple customers where the "unsupported apps" were in fact the cause of the problem, so as a general rule of thumb Nokia would ask to remove them.
It would be kind of like running Embedded Fedora Linux on a Cisco machine then called Cisco tac for support. If you made it to Nokia PLS (Product Line Support) then generally it is either a mis-configuration, a bug or due to running an unsupported app that is most likely running in a way that it should not be. Again the OS is based off of a BSD variant but is not a 100% compatible. This means you have to generally upgrade dependencies and library files to support your new app. By upgrading these libraries or dependencies it can introduce memory and security leaks that you were not originally planning for. Generally it is not a good idea to run unsupported apps on any platform you wish to pay for and have vendor support as then they have to spend un-necessary time finding out what you did or put on and are running. -----Original Message----- From: Mailing list for discussion of Firewall-1 [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of cisco4ng Sent: Monday, February 27, 2006 8:17 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FW-1] Bash on IPSO Hi Marius, I can only tell you what my experience with Nokia TAC. We manage over 500 Nokia IP appliances and everytime a Nokia reboot/crashes for no reason, we run either ipsoinfo or cst and send the output to Nokia. Everytime, Nokia TACs come back and tell us that the unsupported package causes the reboot/crash and want us to remove that packages. I am not talking about TAC level-1. I am specifically referred to Nokia TAC Product Line Support (PLS). I, myself, like you, love to have the unsupported packages on the Nokia because I like to use tcsh and bash as well. that's my 2c. cisco4ng Marius Banica <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: This is not true We have 30 nokia's all of them installed with unsupported tools Also we have access+ service from nokia and they are supporting us all the time without any problems regarding what is installed on the box. -----Original Message----- From: Mailing list for discussion of Firewall-1 [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of cisco4ng Sent: Monday, February 27, 2006 4:54 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FW-1] Bash on IPSO Just be aware that whenever you need Nokia TAC support and you need to run either ipsoinfo or cst, Nokia will demand that you remove the unsupported tools from the box before they can support it. How stupid can that be? cisco4ng Marius Banica wrote: Download from nokia support site "unsupported tools" and install it via the voyager -----Original Message----- From: Mailing list for discussion of Firewall-1 [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Aasish Kiri Sent: Monday, February 27, 2006 4:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [FW-1] Bash on IPSO Hi, Where can I get bash for running on Nokia IPSO?
