Can a SPLAT snapshot be restored on different hardware? I've seen mailing
list posts which state this won't work, but I've never seen official Check
Point documentation that addresses this. Is it guaranteed to always work,
never work or somewhere in between? It looks like the snapshot
configuration file is "/var/CPbackup/schemes/snapshot.cpbak". In this file
it lists the files it excludes, what it deletes, etc. After looking at this
file the only potential issues my untrained eyes see with restoring on
different hardware are:
1. Looks like "/etc/modules.conf" is probably overwritten
2. Grub is re-installed
3. Would need to verify what name is assigned to each physical NIC (i.e.
which one is eth0, eth1, etc.).

For 1 I could manually restore a good modules.conf (if this is needed). I
don't know what (if any) problems could be caused by the number 2 grub
installation. Issue 3 is easy to verify/fix.

Has anyone reverted to a snapshot on different hardware? Any other
thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks,
Jim
