It appears to backup successfully with the backup command without errors
but I suppose that doesn't mean it will restore successfully. Thanks for
the info.

You can in fact get a backup without stoping CheckPoint Services.
Go: $FWDIR/bin/upgrade_tools
And then run:
./upgrade_export <path and file name>
Where <path and file name> is the path where you want to save the backup
file and the name you want for it.
Getting all CheckPoint config out of your backup on the same machine or a
different one, is done by going to the same path ($FWDIR/bin/upgrade_tools)
and running:
./upgrade_import <path and file name>
This time <path and file name> is the location and name of the file you
created previously.
It is important to know this backup only contains CheckPoint configuration,
nothing else related with the platform, such as IPs, routes, etc. In fact
you must load it on a SmartCenter with the same hostname to avoid getting
your ICA corrupted and also to avoid issues with the licenses (which are
also backed up), it is important to remember having the same IPs.
Since no platform info is included in the backup, this one is platform
independant, which means you can get it out of your SPLAT system and load
it
on a Smartcenter running on any other platform as well (Windows, Solaris,
IPSO, etc).
Hope this helps.
