Checkpoint #skI4457 describes (briefly) what these logs are. They are
pointers to logs, chains and accounting records. I would not delete
them. They are generally pretty small compared to actual log files, so
why bother? You can always compress them (gzip) and move them somewhere
else until you need them, which is what I do.

I still don't have clear what exactly resides on each one of the files
generated in the log folder (maybe someone else can help us with

but you for sure need them all if you plan to keep old logs for future
audit
of forensic procedures. So be careful not to delete any files you might
consider "useless".

I had a case in which a customer made backups of the old log files and
at
some point he needed to check logs from a couple of months ago and just
moving back the .log files to the SmartCenter was not enough to be able
to
open them, he had to move all corresponding files in a set before he
was
able to do so.
