On a similar note, the released IPSO 4.2 build 31 on March 8th as well.
It's kind of interesting. I asked if IPSO 3.9 supports R62 and Nokia said
that IPSO 4.2 is the ONLY version that supports R62. I pointed out that the
CP notes say otherwise and was told that development confirmed that IPSO 4.2
is the only version where they support R62.
Methinks there are some hard feelings going on between Check Point and Nokia
now that Check Point has their own hardware line and it is not manufactured
by Nokia.
The supported version list is what has been tested an number of key
features.
For example ipclustering was redone in IPSO 3.8 and the redesign has
impact on all subsequent versions.
Which is exactly why R55P was introduced and is the required/recommended
version to run on those IPSO versions if you are still using NG instead of
NGX.
I had quite a conversation over this with Nokia engineering when working
on a few issues which were well beyond the ability of their support team
as we had dig into the exact packet handling.
Having said that I know a lot of things just work which makes it easier to
upgrade firewalls. But not all combinations have been tested to the extend
the recommended list is.
If you upgrade IPSO first and then upgrade Check Point later there is
usually not a problem.
On the matter of exact VRRP handling you may noticed odd behaviour if you
go from the list. Like ipclustering it requires an even closer bond
between the various components.
