The 6950 is not on Checkpoint's recommended open servers list, which is here:
http://www.checkpoint.com/products/supported_platforms/recommended/ngx/ index.html That doesn't mean your server won't work, but I'd spare yourself the potential headache and support issues, and select a server (and options) carefully, making sure they are on the list. Sometimes a server will be supported but something like an optional raid controller won't be. R65 SPLAT, like other versions before it, still appears to be based on Red Hat ES 3.0. The kernel version is 2.4.21. -d -----Original Message----- From: Mailing list for discussion of Firewall-1 [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of no-need to-list Sent: Saturday, April 21, 2007 3:35 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [FW-1] SPLAT R65 and Dell 6950 in a Lab Environment..... We been using Dell 4600 servers running SPLAT at the gateways HA Cluster and Windows at the management server for 5 years with minor hardare problems, occasionally a disk went bad but it was part of a raid configuration and it was easily replaced. It now time for replacement of the hardware and I was looking at the Dell 6950 with Quad Dual Core Opteron(r) 8222SE, 2x1Mb Cache, 3.0Ghz . I was just wondering if anyone else has loaded Checkpoint SecurePlatform version R65 in a lab environment with this type of hardware? I am planning to do extensive lab testing in late May/early June with this new hardare and SPLAT R65 before moving it into production...hopefully by then Checkpoint will have some Hot Fixes if necessary. Any comments on the R65 version of SPLAT?, what distro is based on? (RED HAT version #) I will update the list as soon I start testing but any comments are welcome now about the R65 version.
