OK, so nobody answered anything about my previous posting (bellow), but I
found the SPLAT installation disc contains an RPM for Telnet, so we are
going to try with that.

Now we are left with the "adding the paths" issue, which I believe is
easier.

This guy, obviously more Linux knowledgeable than me, says he tried adding
the extra paths he needs using $path:,  and usually on any other Red Hat, he
adds  that in .profile or etc/profile so the changes are not lost, but he
did that in SPLAT and did not work, so we need to know how to go about that.

I would really appreciate any feedback on that issue.

Hello,

I have a customer that has a SmartCenter running over SPLAT R60 HFA04 and
managing several firewall modules, but because of some tasks related with
the network security, he would like for this SmartCenter machine to run a
small script that will be monitoring a link and if necessary access an
internal switch via Telnet and make a change in a static route. As you see
this is not a standard task for SPLAT and even when he was able to create
the script and a cron job to trigger it, he has two problems that I need to
figure out how to resolve (if possible):

1) SPLAT has an SSH client daemon, but using SSH involves keys and other
stuff that is hard to manage (my customer has not found a way to do so for
this deployment so far), so it would be great if he could use Telnet, but
seems like there is no Telnet daemon on SPLAT, so does anybody know how to
enable it or if it is possible to add something to have it??

2) My customer needs to add some paths, but said that was not able to do so
in the way he usually does on a regular RH, so he needs to know how to
modify the environment variables  to add the extra paths. Can anybody help
me with that?

I really hope somebody can help me with all this, as going in a different
way to get my customer's issues resolved, would involve a big mess and
multiple changes in the internal architecture.
