I just went through this... I went with a SecurePlatform solution because
it ended up being a lot cheaper. We're a < 100 node license for VPN-1
UTM. For hardware, we went with a Dell rack server. One of the big
things that did me in was hardware support. Checkpoint offers on-site
hardware support/replacement, but it was astronomically expensive. For
the annual hardware service cost from Checkpoint, it was a bit less than
the total hardware purchase price from Dell. So I've got Dell on-site
hardware support.
If you're in a HA environment, perhaps that's not an issue. We're in an
environment where it's not worth it for us to be strictly HA... but having
a several-hour on-site replacement is important.

We have been using Nokia Checkpoint firewall solution (w/ Windows mgmt
server) for many years. We are thinking to buy one new pair of firewall
enforcement points, and I want some inputs for Secure Platform (Splat) vs
UTM-1 solutions. We don't use VPN functions at all. Just firewalling. If
anyone willing to share their inputs (pros and cons) between these two
options, I would appreciate. Thanks in advance.

p.s.
I assume in terms of HA (sync, failover, etc.) both these solutions are the
same, right? thx.
