You may want to look at the possibility of using MEP (multiple entry points) by creating a "connection profile". Once you have created your new check point object, define it in the connection profile and make it the backup. Also ensure that you "update" the topology of your remote clients more often (global properties, remote acess) so that they may receive the new configuration. This works well however the main ip address on the client will remain the original one, even if they are conneting to the second one (new one).
You may also want to take a look at ISP redundancy and control inbound VPN connections which require more complicated configs.
