Hi

I had a similar issue with the Avaya IP Softphones, with remote VPN users
trying to call each other.....

It wasn't a Firewall issue, but a codec/ network region issue on the phone
system.
We had to make sure the the checkpoint office mode, ip range had access to
the network region with the correct codec.

Thanks
Kalpesh

Subject
[FW-1] 3Com softphones issue

Hello,

I have a customer that recently implemented a VoIP solution on his
network,
locally (within the LAN) everything works perfect as well as with remote
locations where they have NBX and connect via site to site VPNs to the
main
offices, but when they try to use Remote Access VPN connections and a
softphone (which they call "Pcxset"), nothing works as expected.

3Com said they use a propietary protocol (didn't give out much info) and
first told us we needed to have opened ports TCP 1040, UDP 2093 and
UDP2096,
which wouldn't be a problem because in fact the rule for the test user
gruop
is opened for ANY, but then they sent a document that says the following:

"Make sure UDP ports 2093-2096, TCP 1040, &IGMP/DVMRP are all open and
enabled across the WAN"

And now I'm concerned about that reference to IGMP/DVMRP. I'm not very
knowleageble of routing protocols and such, but as far as I know, those
work
as muticasts or broadcasts which I believe will not be passed through that
remote access VPN.

So I would really appreciate any inputs on this subject, hopefully
somebody
has had some experience with a similar deployment in the past and can help
me out with a few pointers.

In case it is of help, this is an R60 HFA06 two gateway cluster (HA, not
LS), managed by a Smartcenter in the same version , everything running on
SPLAT.

Regards
