Hi,
/dev/pts is used to "store" the connection from users to the server.
(ssh, telnet, etc).
can you check with "who" and "netstat -an" how many remote connection to
this machine you have ?

Hi all,
Let me introduce my self as a new member in fw-1 mailing list.
I'm a newbie in checkpoint, and now I'm involved at implementing and
maintaining connectra.
Today, I had problem with one of our connectra ngx r62. We can not install
policy.
Dmesg reported that "log buffer is full"
And when I run df -h, it gives information that / is 100%. And /dev/pts is the
one who fill up all the / space.
I went to /dev/pts directory, and found that there are nothing inside the
directory.
Looking at milist archive, I found that by expanding the log buffer should be able to
cover problem. But it was not, I could not solve it by expanding the log buffer. Dmesg
still informed "log buffer is full"
Then I tried to restart syslog by typing "/etc/init.d/syslog restart" on expert
mode. But still no luck, can not install policy and df -h still reported that / is 100%.
So, last resort, I did cpstop && cpstart. And whalaa, our connectra tells that
it missing /etc/hosts information and failed to start. Looking at /etc/hosts, it should
be filled with ip address and hostname, but it was empty. I still be able to remote the
machine though but all vpn service is down, no one could access vpn.
So, desperately, I rebooted the machine hoping that it will be back to normal.
But its not, I can not even ping the machine.
Does anyone knows what is /dev/pts is?
What is the function of /dev/pts?
Why df -h informed that /dev/pts has none on the file system column?
What command that I can use to make log service to clear its buffer and rotate
the log files?
I ask this, because /dev/pts is reported by df -h as the only one who fill up /
space.
Thank you all for the help..
