We would be one of those external monitoring and reporting companies.
Most of them are using some soft of SNMP service based monitoring to get
external visibility on the status of the firewall and the availability of
your external services.

IF you are doing it internally there are some software you can use, but
most of our customers find that it is better to monitor from a
user/external vendor perspective.
