It is confusing. Older client versions (R5x/R6x) will only work on 32-bit windows versions, newer E7x client versions work also on 64-bit OS, but unless you have a very recent software version on your gateway side, you will need to apply patches or upgrades on it.
I suggest to verify in detail each client's Release Notes before making a decision. Good luck wth your tests.
