Title: Log viewer no responding
Since you mention SP5 I am assuming you are running on Windows NT:

In the /winnt/fw1/4.1/bin directory there is an executable called fw.exe.  There are several sub commmands you can perform with this.  One of which is a 'logswitch'.

at the command line type 'fw logswitch'

by default this will take the current log, archive it and create a new empty log.

if you want to have this done automatically I would create an 'AT' job.
